I. Jean and Marie-Louise Langlais:
Lectures and Performances
This DVD features Jean Langlais playing, talking, and improvising on the organ
in his apartment in Paris and on the organ at the Schola Cantorum. In addition,
Marie-Louise Langlais gives lectures on the major French organ composers. Filmed
in 1989, Langlais was 82 years old and had had a stroke, but his mind was not affected,
and his playing and teaching, with Marie-Louise Langlais’ help, is still remarkable.
He is seen on the video playing parts of the Pastorale, Final, and Pièce Héroíque
by Franck. Also included is a performance by Yves Castagnet playing the Duruflé
Prelude and Fugue on the Name of ALAIN. $22.00
II. The Organ and Organists of
Sainte-Clotilde
Produced in 1993, this DVD features Marie-Louise Langlais at the console of Sainte-
Clotilde explaining and describing the organ. Lessons given at Sainte-Clotilde in
1989 on Franck, Tournemire, and Langlais, are also included. $18.00
III. Master Classes and Performances at
Sainte-Clotilde, with Marie-Louise
Langlais and Jacques Taddei
Filmed in April, 1998, this two volume set features Marie-Louise Langlais giving
master classes on Franck’s Three Pieces (Fantasy in A, Cantabile, and Pièce Héroique).
Mme. Langlais is one of the leading specialists on Franck, and her insight into
these pieces make these videos a real treasure. Also featured is the present organist
of Sainte-Clotilde, Jacques Taddei, improvising and talking about his life as a musician
in France. $32.00
IV. Frederic Blanc: Lessons on Duruflé
and Improvisation at Notre Dame d’Auteuil
Filmed in July, 2001 at the beautiful Cavaillé-Coll organ of the church of Notre
Dame d’Auteuil in Paris, noted improviser and prizewinner Frederic Blanc plays Duruflé
and presents improvisation instruction in a very clear, methodical way. Blanc, Secretary
of the Duruflé Association, resides in the Duruflé home as heir and curator to the
music and musical legacy of this famous musical family. $18.00
